Amad Diallo to miss Man United's Brentford clash after family bereavement
Diallo unavailable on compassionate leave as Casemiro serves suspension and Mazraoui and Martinez are sidelined

Manchester United will be without Amad Diallo for Saturday's lunchtime trip to Brentford after he was granted compassionate leave following a family bereavement. Head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed Diallo would miss the match at the Getch Community Stadium, with Casemiro served a one-game suspension after collecting two yellow cards in the win over Chelsea, and with Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez unavailable through injury.
"Licha is out, Casemiro is out because of the red card (against Chelsea)," Amorim said. "Amad is not here because someone in his family passed away. We are giving all the support to Amad and understood he needed to return home. Mazraoui will not be back until the international break. The rest are fit and ready." It's understood that Diallo is staying at home in Manchester and has not travelled to the Ivory Coast." The 23-year-old wiped his Instagram posts following the Chelsea win after coming under fire for posting a photo of himself with former United winger Alejandro Garnacho when the two players swapped shirts in the dressing-rooms. United fans gave Garnacho a hot reception on his first return to Old Trafford after leaving for Chelsea at the end of last month in a £40million deal.
Amid the absence, United are preparing for a clash that will test depth in attack and midfield. Diallo’s departure from the squad narrows an already limited pool of forwards, with the plan evidently focusing on the options available to Amorim for a game that could shape the early momentum of United’s season as they seek to maintain pressure in the table.
"I always say the same thing to my players: shut down social media. Nowadays it is a price you have to pay. But the important thing is that the club and the friends, that is real life for Amad we are here for him. It’s a tough moment and in these kind of moments the next game is not important. We can win without Amad and we also want to win for Amad," Amorim added, highlighting the emotional support network around the squad and underscoring a focus on performance on the field rather than outside noise.
Casemiro will sit out after his red card against Chelsea, with Mazraoui sidelined until the international break and Lisandro Martinez also out of action due to injury. The remainder of the squad, Amorim indicated, is available and prepared to face Brentford, who will provide a stern test in west London. The manager’s comments also touched on the broader challenge of balancing compassion with competitive demands, particularly when injuries and suspensions pile up early in the campaign.

The club’s stance on supporting Diallo has drawn praise on social media, even as fans navigated the emotional complexity of a young player dealing with a personal bereavement while facing intense scrutiny off the pitch. In the wake of Garnacho’s return to Manchester United, after a high-profile move to Chelsea, supporters underscored the importance of club unity and sensitivity in difficult moments. The Brentford game will test United’s resilience and the depth of Amorim’s squad as they navigate a compressed schedule and European ambition, with several players already managing injuries and suspensions ahead of a critical batch of fixtures.
