Amorim backed by Ratcliffe as United endure worst start to a season in 33 years
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains supportive after a helicopter visit for talks amid a rough start to the campaign.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said on Thursday that owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains supportive despite the club's worst start to a season in 33 years. Ratcliffe flew into Carrington by helicopter for talks with Amorim, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, as United opened the campaign with four points from four Premier League games and a defeat in the Manchester derby. The day also brought the elimination from the Carabao Cup at the hands of Grimsby Town.
During the meeting, Amorim said Ratcliffe's involvement should be viewed as ongoing support for the club's long-term project rather than a signal of imminent changes. He described the session as routine, noting that the group spoke about normal topics and had several discussions with him, Berrada and Wilcox present.
Ratcliffe's flight to Carrington underscored the ownership’s continued involvement, but Amorim stressed that there has been no shift in backing and that the focus remains on rebuilding the team over time.
Ahead of Saturday's clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford, Amorim acknowledged that while the team has shown improvement, there is work to be done in the final stages of attacks and in finishing chances. He said the group is better overall compared with last season, but finishing in the box remains a priority and the club must be more clinical to convert chances and secure results.
The current stretch leaves United with a challenging early-season picture: four points from four league fixtures and a cup exit that has intensified scrutiny around Old Trafford. The visit from Ratcliffe, alongside chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, was a clear signal of continued focus on turning United's fortunes around over the longer term.
As United prepare to host Chelsea, the club will be aiming to translate any improvements into positive results and steady a season that has not matched the lofty expectations surrounding the club.
