Andre Onana Joins Trabzonspor on Loan from Manchester United
Cameroonian goalkeeper moves for remainder of 2025-26 season after failing to start United’s opening Premier League matches

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, the Premier League club announced on Thursday.
The move was completed ahead of the close of the transfer window in Turkey on Friday and is subject to international clearance and registration, United said. The 29-year-old had not featured in United’s opening three Premier League matches this season, and his only appearance for the club so far came in a shock Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby.
United said in a brief statement: "We would like to wish Andre good luck." The loan deal leaves United with other goalkeeping options following recent transfer activity; Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens, 23, was signed on deadline day from Royal Antwerp in a deal worth an initial €21 million (about £18.1m) plus add-ons. Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton remain part of the squad’s goalkeeping group.
Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in July 2023 for a reported fee of £47.2 million to succeed David de Gea as the club’s first-choice keeper. He made 102 appearances for United and was part of the squad that won the 2024 FA Cup. His time at Old Trafford was marked by several high-profile errors that drew scrutiny from fans and media.
Trabzonspor will hope Onana can strengthen their goalkeeping position as they seek domestic and European progress this season. The Cameroon international brings experience at club and international level, including Champions League and international tournament appearances, which could be valuable for Trabzonspor’s ambitions.
The loan is the latest in a summer of goalkeeper movement at United as the club reshapes that part of the squad. The deal will be completed once the necessary paperwork is filed and approved by the relevant football authorities.
Further details of the loan, including whether there is an option or obligation to buy at the end of the season, were not disclosed by either club at the time of the announcement. Manchester United continue Premier League fixtures and squad management as they balance domestic and cup commitments.
