Andre Onana's half-time dressing-room plea follows debut error in Trabzonspor's 1-0 loss to Fenerbahçe
Loanee from Manchester United delivered a rousing speech after spilling a save that led to the only goal, though he was still voted man of the match.

Andre Onana delivered a passionate half-time dressing-room address after spilling a save that led to the only goal as Trabzonspor fell 1-0 to Fenerbahçe on Sunday, footage of the team’s dressing-room shows.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper, on loan from Manchester United, made a series of impressive stops during the match and was still voted man of the match, but his error shortly before half-time saw the ball spilled into the path of an opponent and a Fenerbahçe player capitalised. Onana faced 29 shots, nine of which were on target, and conceded once.
In the clip circulating after the game, Onana is heard addressing his team-mates with intensity, gesturing emphatically towards midfielder Okay Yokuşlu — who had been sent off — and urging the squad to stay united. “We have to win this match for this man,” he said, according to the footage. “We can do this if we stay together. I know it’s hard. We have to do this.” His remarks were met with applause from team-mates as he sat down, but Trabzonspor were unable to overturn the deficit.
Trabzonspor coach and club officials gave no immediate public comment on the dressing-room footage. The team’s defeat left them third in the Turkish Süper Lig after five matches, with 10 points.
Onana joined Trabzonspor this summer as a high-profile loanee from Manchester United following a turbulent spell in England. The 29-year-old was signed by United after an earlier stint at Inter Milan, where he was part of a side that reached the UEFA Champions League final. Reports indicate the transfer involved a fee in the region of £47 million and that Onana received a substantial signing-on package and performance-related bonuses.
His move to Turkey is part of a recent influx of well-known players to the Süper Lig, following transfers that brought Ederson, Leroy Sané and Victor Osimhen to clubs in the country. Trabzonspor supporters greeted Onana warmly on arrival, with hundreds reportedly turning out at the airport and stadium in anticipation of his debut.
Onana’s appearance against Fenerbahçe came after limited action for Manchester United this season; his only outing before the loan was in a Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby. The signing of Senne Lammens at Old Trafford had pushed Onana down the pecking order, prompting the temporary move to Turkey.
Trabzonspor finished seventh in the Turkish top flight last season, but the club has previously tasted championship success; its 2021–22 title run remains a recent high point, when average home attendances exceeded 35,000. The club’s supporters and hierarchy have framed recent signings as part of an effort to re-establish the side among the country’s leading teams.
Match action against Fenerbahçe saw Trabzonspor reduced to ten men after the red card to Yokuşlu, and the visitors were unable to find an equaliser. While Onana’s early save kept the scoreline level at times, the miscue ahead of half-time proved decisive.
There was no suggestion from officials that disciplinary action would follow the dressing-room address. Onana’s immediate focus, as communicated in the footage, was on rallying team-mates and attempting to salvage points despite the numerical disadvantage.
The result leaves Trabzonspor seeking a response in their next league fixture as they aim to climb the table and justify summer recruitment. Onana’s performances in the coming weeks will be watched closely as he seeks to rebuild his standing and secure regular playing time while on loan from Manchester United.
