Angels Prospect Rio Foster Hospitalized After Early-Morning Vehicle Crash

Los Angeles Angels prospect Rio Foster, 22, was hospitalized after a vehicle crash early Friday morning and remains in critical condition, the Angels said in a team statement.

"Rio is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital and remains in critical condition," the Angels said, asking the Angels community to keep Foster and his family in their thoughts during the difficult time. The organization did not provide additional details about the circumstances of the crash or Foster's injuries.

Foster plays at the High-A level for the Angels' affiliate, the Tri-City Dust Devils. The Dust Devils announced their scheduled game against Hillsboro on Friday night was suspended in the wake of the incident. On social media, the minor league club said, "The thoughts and prayers of the entire Dust Devils organization are with Rio Foster who was a passenger in a car accident early this morning and sustained serious injuries." The team offered well-wishes to Foster and his family but did not release further information.

Foster was selected by the Angels in the 16th round of the 2023 MLB draft. He has been part of the organization's minor league system and was listed on the High-A roster this season.

The Angels' statement described Foster as "currently receiving medical care at a local hospital," language teams commonly use while medical providers and family coordinate updates. The Dust Devils' decision to suspend Friday's game reflected the immediate impact on the affiliate; the club said its thoughts and prayers were with Foster and his family.

No law enforcement agencies, hospital officials or team representatives provided additional public details about the crash, including where it occurred, whether others were injured or the cause of the accident. The Angels and Tri-City organizations have not released a timetable for further updates.

Foster's hospitalization prompted an outpouring of support from teammates and fans on social platforms, with messages of concern and encouragement posted to the Dust Devils' channels. The Angels' organization requested privacy for Foster and his family while medical care and recovery are ongoing.

The minor league season schedule and player movement can shift quickly when an affiliate pauses operations for reasons including player health. The Tri-City Dust Devils did not announce plans for rescheduling the suspended game against Hillsboro.

The Angels and Tri-City Dust Devils did not immediately respond to requests for more information beyond their initial statements. Further developments, including updates on Foster's condition or information about the crash, will likely come from team officials or family representatives when appropriate to share.
