Los Angeles Angels prospect Rio Foster, 22, is in critical condition after being injured in a single-car crash early Friday morning in Richland, Washington, the team said.
Foster, an outfielder with the High-A Tri-City Dust Devils in Pasco, was a passenger in the vehicle and "is receiving medical care at a local hospital and remains in critical condition," the Angels said. Tri-City canceled its scheduled game against Hillsboro on Friday night.
The crash involved a single vehicle that investigators say failed to negotiate a roundabout while traveling at high speed, striking a fence and a power pole. Four people were in the car. Two occupants suffered serious injuries and two were ejected from the vehicle, according to local reports. The driver is being investigated on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said; no formal charges were reported in the initial accounts.
The Tri-City Dust Devils posted on social media that "the thoughts and prayers of the entire Dust Devils organization are with Rio Foster," confirming Foster was among those injured. The team did not provide additional medical details.
Foster, 22, had been playing in the Angels' High-A system. The organization and the Dust Devils declined to comment beyond acknowledging Foster's condition and the canceled game.
