Anthony Joshua stops Jake Paul; Paul suffers broken jaw and 60-day suspension

Anthony Joshua stopped Jake Paul with a sixth-round knockout in Miami, handing the YouTuber-turned-boxer his first professional defeat. Joshua pressed the action late in the bout, delivering knockdowns in the fifth round and twice more in the sixth before the referee halted the fight in the early hours of Saturday local time.

Paul, who endured six rounds, bled from the mouth after the stoppage but remained in good spirits in the ring, telling reporters, "I'm feeling good, that was fun, I love this sport." His promoter Nakisa Bidarian later confirmed that Paul drove himself to hospital with a double jaw fracture and that the recovery period was expected to be four to six weeks. Paul also posted an image of his jaw X-ray showing the double fracture on social media.

Logan Paul, Jake's brother, visited him at the hospital and shared updates from the bedside. In the postfight window, Paul said he would take a break from boxing but aimed to return and compete against opponents in his weight class, indicating a future cruiserweight run. He added that Joshua is a great fighter and that while he was beaten, that is part of the sport and he would come back stronger.

Under boxing rules, the Florida Athletic Commission, which sanctioned the bout, issued an immediate 60-day suspension for a knockout, with the possibility of extension if the knockout was judged particularly brutal. Bidarian said the recovery timetable was four to six weeks and noted that Paul remained upbeat about continuing his career once healed.

From the hospital, Paul kept a light tone on social media, joking, "Double broken jaw. Give me Canelo in 10 days." The comments reflected a willingness to quickly replenish the ambition that has driven his boxing ventures, even as he acknowledged the setback.

In the wake of the victory, Joshua called out Tyson Fury, urging the longtime rival to step into the ring if he truly wants a challenge. Fury, officially retired in January, has teased a comeback on multiple occasions and has hinted at a 2026 return. Joshua challenged Fury to trade Twitter fingers for gloves and to settle a longstanding dispute in front of fans who have long wanted the matchup. Watch this space, as promoters and fans alike anticipate whether Fury will answer the call and whether Paul’s plans to rebound proceed on schedule.
