AUSTIN, Texas — Arch Manning delivered his best game of the season so far, throwing for 309 yards and three touchdowns and adding two rushing scores as No. 8 Texas rolled to a 55-0 victory over Sam Houston State on Saturday night. Manning was 18 of 21 through the air and found a rhythm early, capping the performance with two first-half rushing touchdowns that helped Texas seize command.

With crisp, decisive throws and improved timing, Manning connected with Ryan Wingo on two third-quarter touchdowns, a 53-yard strike and a 13-yard score, extending the Longhorns' lead and illustrating a notable step forward in his accuracy. He entered the game amid a season that had not fully met expectations and had publicly pledged during the week that he would play better.

Texas never trailed and kept Sam Houston out of the end zone as the night wore on. Manning left the game with Texas ahead 45-0, and reserves saw playing time in the second half as the rout continued.

Manning had entered the season as the preseason Heisman Trophy favorite but had shown uneven results through the first weeks. He had entered the game completing about 55 percent of his passes, a mark he surpassed against Sam Houston and used to spark several scoring drives for Texas.

Texas improved to 3-1 with the win, while Sam Houston State fell to 0-4. The blowout provided a clear statement for the Longhorns and a tangible sign of Manning's development as he continues to work through his third college start.

Looking ahead, Texas will seek to maintain the momentum as it moves deeper into its schedule, relying on Manning's arm and the offense's balance to produce consistent production while the defense continues to tighten up. The performance against Sam Houston offered a milestone in Manning's progress and a reminder of the program's expectations for this season.
