Arkansas defensive back Kani Walker taken to hospital after knee to the head

Arkansas defensive back Kani Walker was taken to a local hospital Saturday night after appearing to be struck in the head by a teammate’s knee and being left motionless on the field during the Razorbacks’ game against Ole Miss.

The incident occurred early in the fourth quarter as Walker raced back in coverage to prevent Ole Miss wide receiver Deuce Alexander from hauling in a 40-yard pass near the Arkansas 30-yard line. Fellow Razorbacks defender Caleb Wooden also converged on the play from the opposite side and, after falling, appeared to inadvertently strike Walker in the head with his knee. Walker remained motionless on the turf before medical personnel and team trainers entered the field to attend to him.

Medical staff placed Walker on a stretcher and carted him off the field. Photographs from the scene showed Walker giving a thumbs-up while being loaded onto the cart. Arkansas officials said he was transported to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure. ESPN reported that Walker was moving all of his extremities.

Neither Arkansas nor Ole Miss immediately released a detailed medical update following the transport. Team personnel remained on the field while trainers treated Walker before he was moved. The play and subsequent stoppage halted the game while officials cleared the field and checked on the player.

Walker is listed as a defensive back for Arkansas. The program did not provide a timetable for further information, and the university’s athletic department had not posted a formal statement at the time of the reports.

Head injuries have become a point of emphasis across college football, with conferences and teams following protocols that require immediate evaluation and, when indicated, precautionary transport to medical facilities. Arkansas’ decision to take Walker to a hospital aligns with typical procedures when a player is rendered motionless or shows signs of potential concussion or other serious injury.

Further updates are expected as the team and medical staff complete evaluations and Arkansas issues any official statements regarding Walker’s condition and status.
