Arsenal's Madueke sidelined for six to eight weeks with knee injury

Arsenal expect Noni Madueke to miss six to eight weeks with a knee injury sustained in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday, BBC Sport reports. The 23-year-old England international, signed from Chelsea in the summer, was substituted at half-time and has been undergoing tests to determine the severity of the issue. Initial assessments have indicated there is no anterior cruciate ligament injury, though medics are awaiting a definitive diagnosis as swelling subsides.

An initial prognosis points to a minimum of six weeks on the sidelines, with the six-to-eight-week window described as the likely timeframe depending on how the swelling responds to treatment. If that prognosis holds, Madueke will miss a clutch of domestic and European fixtures and will be unavailable for England’s forthcoming fixtures against Wales and Latvia, as well as mid-November World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania. Arsenal’s next Premier League test is a home match with Sunderland on November 8; if his absence extends through the international window, a return around the North London derby against Tottenham on November 23 could be possible.

The news is a blow to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and to England head coach Thomas Tuchel, given Madueke’s promising start to the season. The attacker was taken off at half-time in the City game and replaced by Bukayo Saka, highlighting the competition for wide attacking roles within Arteta’s squad.

Arsenal officials will now rely on depth across their flanks as they navigate a busy schedule of domestic fixtures and European commitments. The injury adds to a period of demanding fixtures, testing Arteta’s rotation policy and the squad’s ability to shoulder minutes across multiple competitions. Medical staff will monitor the swelling and conduct further assessments to refine the timetable for his return. A late-November comeback, if achievable, would help Arsenal bridge the gap during a crucial stretch of the season.
