Bayern Munich Face Decision on Harry Kane as Nicolas Jackson Viewed as Successor
Club must decide whether to extend England captain's deal as new signing is lined up to replace him over time

Bayern Munich must soon decide on the future of England captain Harry Kane amid signs the club is preparing for the possibility he will not finish his career at the Allianz Arena.
German football expert Raphael Honigstein said Bayern are "braced for the possibility" that Kane could leave before his contract expires in 2027 and that recent transfer activity points to planning for an eventual replacement.
Kane, 32, joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 for a reported £86.4 million. He has since helped the club to a Bundesliga title and the German Super Cup, scoring 91 goals in 100 appearances for the Bavarian side while still under contract until 2027.
Honigstein, speaking to talkSPORT's Hawksbee and Jacobs programme, said Bayern have been seeking a forward who can serve as both a backup and an understudy to Kane. The club considered a number of options, including Benjamin Sesko and Nick Woltemade, before agreeing a loan deal for Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea that carries an obligation to buy next summer.
"This suggests Bayern are aware of the possibility that Kane might go in a year or two," Honigstein said. He added that Jackson is expected to play alongside Kane, ahead of him on occasions, or provide rest minutes rather than displace him immediately. "He is very much there to be his eventual successor, but we are still quite far off that."
The signing of Jackson, a younger striker with Premier League experience, reduces Bayern's risk of being left without a long-term centre forward if Kane departs, sources said. With two years remaining on his deal, Bayern must decide whether to offer an extension to avoid the prospect of losing Kane on a free transfer in 2027.
The decision carries sporting and commercial implications. Kane remains one of Europe's most prolific strikers and is second on the Premier League's all-time scoring list with 213 goals; he would require 48 more Premier League goals to surpass Alan Shearer's record. Any move back to the Premier League would be notable given Kane's sustained scoring record since leaving England.
Bayern's recruitment strategy has repeatedly emphasised planning for succession at key positions, and the arrival of Jackson fits that model. Club officials have not publicly detailed contract talks with Kane or their long-term forward plans. Bayern will weigh on-field needs, squad balance and financial considerations before determining whether to extend Kane's stay or prepare for his eventual replacement.
Kane's performances and fitness, the integration of Jackson into Julian Nagelsmann's squad, and any offers from other clubs are likely to shape discussions over the coming months. For now, Bayern's hierarchy and the England captain face a decision that will influence the club's attacking setup beyond the current campaign.
