Bears advance past Cowboys 31-14 as Caleb Williams shines

The Chicago Bears defeated the Dallas Cowboys 31-14 on Sunday in Chicago, with Caleb Williams throwing four touchdown passes to pace the victory and help the Bears rebound from an early setback. Williams was efficient, finishing 19-of-28 for 298 yards, and he connected with multiple receivers as Chicago built a two-score lead in the first half and extended it in the second.

One notable moment came late in the game when Dallas wide receiver George Pickens slammed his helmet onto the bench after a fourth-quarter pass went off his hands and into the arms of Bears safety Tremaine Edmunds for an interception. Prescott had Pickens open about eight yards downfield, but the ball sailed just in front of him, setting up the Bears with favorable field position and contributing to a rough finish for the Cowboys. Pickens had a productive afternoon overall, totaling five catches on nine targets for 68 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter, though he was unable to make a bigger impact for Dallas as the game wore on.

Chicago opened the scoring with a flea-flicker that set the tone for a potent offensive day. Luther Burden III hauled in the first-quarter score, and he led Chicago with three receptions for 101 yards. Williams capitalized on multiple chances, spreading the ball to a receiving corps that included D.J. Moore and Cole Kmet, each of whom added a touchdown catch. The Bears also benefited from their rushing and play-calling, helping Williams sustain drives and keep Dallas's defense honest.

The Cowboys managed a late push but were unable to mount sustained answers. Dallas’s defense surrendered at least 30 points for the second straight game and for the third time in the last five games dating to last season. Prescott battled a bruising afternoon, and the Dallas passing game endured a setback when CeeDee Lamb exited earlier in the contest with an ankle injury, leaving Pickens to shoulder a larger share of the receiving load.

Dallas’s offense produced early scoring opportunities but could not finish drives consistently. Prescott completed a handful of throws to keep the Cowboys within striking distance, but the inability to finish in the red zone and the turnover by Pickens proved costly in the second half. Chicago, meanwhile, improved to shake off defensive lapses from earlier in the season by pressing the tempo and relying on Williams’s decision-making and accuracy.

The result left both teams at 1-2 on the year, a setback for Dallas on the road and a confidence-boosting win for Chicago in front of its home crowd. The Bears will look to sustain momentum as they move on to their next assignment, while Dallas will aim to rebound quickly in advance of a challenging schedule. Williams’s performance provided a blueprint for Chicago’s approach going forward, one that relies on a diversified passing attack and an efficient distribution of targets to maximize yardage and point production.
