Browns Fans Marry at Tailgate Outside Huntington Bank Field Before Week 1 Loss to Bengals

A pair of Cleveland Browns fans were married in a parking-lot tailgate outside Huntington Bank Field on Sunday, exchanging vows hours before the team's Week 1 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The small ceremony, attended by family, friends and fellow fans, featured a modest arch decorated with Browns pennants and attendees wearing team jerseys. An officiant in team gear presided over the service as grills, music and other pregame gatherings continued around the lot.

Videos of the tailgate wedding circulated on social media before kickoff, including posts from local accounts that showed fans clapping and cheering as the couple completed the ceremony. The couple told reporters they chose a tailgate wedding because football has been an important part of their relationship and they wanted the celebration to reflect that shared interest.

The nuptials came just hours before the Browns fell to the Bengals, 17-16. Cleveland kicker Andre Szmyt missed an extra point and a field goal attempt in the loss, and starting quarterback Joe Flacco completed 291 passing yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

The game was decided late as the Bengals took advantage of the missed kicks to secure a one-point victory. The result left Cleveland 0-1 to open the 2025 season.

Tailgate culture has long been a fixture of college and professional football, with fans often holding elaborate pregame parties in stadium parking lots. Weddings staged in such settings are rare but not unprecedented; on Sunday, supporters combined the pregame ritual with a personal ceremony reflective of the couple's connection to the team and the local fan community.

Members of the fan base who attended the ceremony remained in the lot for the game, and social media posts from the scene captured both the celebratory atmosphere of the wedding and the later disappointment after the final whistle. The couple left the tailgate married and the Browns starting the season with a narrow loss.
