Bulls, Josh Giddey agree to four-year, $100 million contract

The Chicago Bulls signed restricted free agent Josh Giddey to a four-year, $100 million contract, ending more than two months of uncertainty over the guard's future, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Giddey, 22, could have accepted the one-year, $11.14 million qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next offseason but instead agreed to the long-term deal that keeps him in Chicago. The 6-foot-8 playmaker joined the Bulls in June 2024 in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder that sent Alex Caruso to the Thunder.

A third-year NBA player, Giddey started his career as the sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft by Oklahoma City. He spent three seasons with the Thunder before the trade; Caruso played a central role in the Thunder's run to the 2025 championship.

Giddey struggled with his long-range shot during his last season in Oklahoma City and saw his standing with the Thunder diminish. He regained momentum with the Bulls, however, posting season averages of 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 46.5% from the field, 37.8% from three-point range and 78.1% from the free-throw line. The assists, rebounds and three-point percentage were all career highs.

The contract followed a pronounced late-season uptick: in his final 20 games with Chicago, Giddey averaged 21.4 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.1 assists while shooting 49.5% from the field, 44.3% from three and 81% at the line. That stretch highlighted his potential as a versatile primary ball-handler who can score, rebound and facilitate.

Chicago views Giddey as a building block alongside a young core that includes 2024 No. 11 pick Matas Buzelis, 2025 No. 12 pick Noa Essengue and 25-year-old guard Coby White. The deal gives the Bulls cost certainty with a player who showed he could grow into a lead role in the latter portion of the season.

The agreement also avoided the immediate risk that Giddey would take the qualifying offer, play under a one-year contract and enter unrestricted free agency next summer. With the extension in place, Chicago secures a promising playmaker who has demonstrated the ability to impact multiple areas of the game.

Financial details beyond the four-year, $100 million figure were not disclosed. The Bulls declined further comment. Giddey is expected to be a significant part of Chicago's rotation heading into the next season as the franchise seeks to develop its young core and return to postseason contention.
