The league confirmed the penalty, tied to comments posted on Instagram in the hours after the game.
Clark, 23, a two-time All-Star and the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, posted replies under photos from the Fever bench that referenced the officials and the bench mob. The Fever's official account posted photos of the bench celebrating, and Clark's responses suggested the energy would carry into the next game.
Fever teammate Sophie Cunningham joined in, joking that the cost of the penalty would be manageable and that a GoFundMe might be in order. The online banter highlighted the lighthearted tone among players about the league fine while staying focused on the postseason.
Clark and Cunningham have since been ruled out for the season. Clark has been sidelined with a groin injury since July, and after attempting a comeback through August, she was ruled out for the year on Sept. 4. In a post on X after the news, Clark said she had given her best effort to return and thanked fans for their support through the long process.
