Chelsea agree deal to sign Strasbourg captain Emanuel Emegha in 2026

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Emanuel Emegha from Strasbourg, the Premier League club said on Friday, with the 22-year-old striker set to join the London side in 2026. The move was announced 11 days after the close of the summer transfer window.

Emegha, who captained Strasbourg last season, scored 14 goals in 27 Ligue 1 appearances in 2024-25 and has three goals in four games across all competitions this season. The Dutch forward had been the subject of interest from other English clubs during the summer but opted to remain at Strasbourg to lead the team into European competition before agreeing the future transfer.

Clubs including Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest explored potential moves for Emegha during the transfer window, but the striker rejected those offers, choosing to stay with Strasbourg. Chelsea described the agreement as a transfer between clubs linked through the BlueCo ownership group; terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The agreement follows a pattern of transfers involving clubs associated with BlueCo. Chelsea completed the deal after the English window closed on Aug. 29, meaning Emegha will remain eligible to play for Strasbourg until the transfer takes effect in 2026, when registration with Chelsea can be completed in line with governing body rules and the relevant transfer windows.

Emegha progressed through youth systems in the Netherlands and established himself in France, emerging as Strasbourg’s leading attacker and earning the club captaincy. His goalscoring record in Ligue 1 and early-season form contributed to Strasbourg’s qualification for European competition this season and drew attention from clubs in the Premier League.

Chelsea have been active in the market across successive windows as they rebuild their squad. The club did not disclose the length of Emegha’s contract or financial details, and neither Chelsea nor Strasbourg immediately provided further comment on the mechanism or timing of the move.

Emegha’s planned arrival gives Chelsea a young, proven goalscorer with experience in a top European league. How quickly he will be integrated into Chelsea’s first-team plans will depend on the precise registration date in 2026 and the club’s situation at that time. Further details were expected to be released by the clubs as they finalise the paperwork.
