Commanders coach Dan Quinn bloodied after collision with Marcus Mariota during win over Raiders

Washington Commanders defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 41-24 Sunday in Landover, Md., improving to 2-1. The night’s defining moment came late in the second quarter when Raiders quarterback Marcus Mariota collided with Commanders head coach Dan Quinn on the sideline, leaving Quinn with a bloody nose.

With less than 10 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Mariota’s 3-yard rush led to the collision on the Commanders sideline. Quinn took a cut on the bridge of his nose, was attended to by medical staff, and remained with his team for the second half as Washington built a 20-10 lead at the break.

Mariota, starting in place of the injured Jayden Daniels, completed 15 of 21 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown, and added 40 rushing yards and a rushing score. The Commanders also benefited from a 95-yard punt return TD by Jaylin Lane that sparked a momentum swing.

After the collision, Mariota’s performances carried into the second half as Washington extended its lead and kept Las Vegas at bay. Washington hit a field goal late in the second quarter to push the advantage to 20-10, then pulled away in the third and fourth quarters to finish 41-24.

The Raiders were led by quarterback Geno Smith, who threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns. Tre Tucker topped Las Vegas receivers with eight catches for 145 yards and was the target on all three of Smith’s TD passes.

Quinn spoke with FOX after the game, saying he was OK and that it would be a physical day, praising his players for responding after the incident and for finishing the game with a victory. Washington improved to 2-1 as it heads to Atlanta next week, while Las Vegas drops to 1-2 and heads home to regroup.
