Cowboys sign Jadeveon Clowney two days after arrest in South Carolina

Dallas Cowboys signed veteran defensive end Jadeveon Clowney on Sept. 14, two days after he was arrested in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and failure to identify, according to police records. The arrest occurred Sept. 12 after Clowney allegedly tried to park in a lot that had been closed to parking, despite being told that parking was not allowed. The charges are misdemeanors, and no additional information about the case was immediately released.

Clowney’s signing came two days after Dallas’ Week 2 overtime victory over the New York Giants, a game after which Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced the deal. The veteran edge rusher is expected to add depth along the defensive line as Dallas navigates an early-season schedule. The Cowboys (1-1) are scheduled to host the Chicago Bears (0-2) at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Clowney spent the 2024 season with the Carolina Panthers after they signed him to a two-year, $20 million contract in March 2024. He appeared in 14 games, all starts, and posted 5.5 sacks, 46 tackles and nine tackles for loss. Carolina released him in May 2025 after one season with the team. At 32, Clowney is entering the 12th season of his NFL career and has played for seven teams, including his original franchise.

Drafted by the Houston Texans with the No. 1 overall pick in 2014, Clowney has since spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Panthers before signing with the Cowboys. In 140 career games, he has 409 total tackles, 58 sacks, one interception, nine fumbles recovered (three returned for touchdowns) and 108 tackles for loss.

The addition of Clowney gives Dallas another proven edge rusher as it tries to supplement a defensive front that has frequently changed over the past several seasons. His career arc includes multiple Pro Bowl appearances during five seasons with the Texans and stints with five other teams before joining Dallas, marking the latest chapter in a long, mobile-trick play for a defensive lineman who has remained a focal point of attention for fans and media alike.
