Cristiano Ronaldo shoves fan at Portugal team hotel; lip-reader says he used expletive
Video shows the Portugal forward push a selfie-seeking supporter before a World Cup qualifier; an expert lip-reader told the Daily Mail he told fans to 'f*** off.'

Cristiano Ronaldo pushed a fan who breached security at Portugal’s team hotel ahead of the squad’s World Cup qualifying match against Armenia, and an expert lip-reader told the Daily Mail the forward used an expletive about supporters as he walked away.
Video posted on X by user Sebas Crackbol shows a supporter getting past security and approaching Ronaldo in what appeared to be the hotel lobby. The footage captures Ronaldo shoving the man away while another fan is stopped by security a short distance away. Both supporters were then escorted from the area and Ronaldo walked off in the opposite direction.
Nicola Hickling, described by the Daily Mail as an investigative and forensic lip-reader, told the newspaper she interpreted Ronaldo’s remarks after the incident to include, “I said no more. Leave!” and that as he turned away he muttered, “I wish they’d f*** off.” The Daily Mail report attributed the lip-reading to Hickling; the remarks have not been corroborated by audio on the posted video.
The incident occurred in the build-up to Portugal’s match against Armenia, in which Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal recorded a 5-0 victory. He added two more goals in the following game, a 3-2 win over Hungary, bringing his total to four goals across the international break and elevating his World Cup qualifying tally to 39 goals — level with Guatemala’s Carlos Ruiz for the competition record, according to match reports.
Ronaldo, 40, has made 223 appearances for Portugal and scored 141 international goals since his debut in 2003. He plays his club football for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr and has been part of Portugal teams that won Euro 2016 and the UEFA Nations League twice.
The hotel confrontation split opinion on social media. Some users criticized Ronaldo’s actions as excessive, with one writing, “This is shameful.” Others defended the player, arguing the fan should not have invaded his personal space; one user posted, “I’m on Ronaldo’s side, you don’t just invade someone’s personal space like that,” while another said they supported the shove and urged that people stop touching public figures without permission.
Portugal’s coaching staff and national federation did not issue an immediate public statement about the hotel incident. There has been no official confirmation from Ronaldo or his representatives regarding the lip-reader’s interpretation. The player’s participation and scoring in subsequent international fixtures indicated the incident did not prevent him from being selected or from contributing on the field.
Encounters between players and fans in public spaces have occasionally produced contentious moments across world football, prompting clubs and federations to review security procedures for high-profile athletes. Portugal’s upcoming fixtures in the World Cup qualifying calendar and Ronaldo’s continued role in the national team are expected to keep the episode in public view as debate over fan conduct and player privacy continues.
