Patrick says Wilson’s Seattle era should be judged with the Legion of Boom in mind, not dismissed as a byproduct of the defense.

Dan Patrick publicly pushed back Wednesday at Richard Sherman’s assessment that Russell Wilson's success in Seattle was largely the result of the Legion of Boom, calling the claim revisionist history.

"This is revisionist history," Patrick said. "The Legion of Boom went away when Russ was 27. You can point to the last three years. But how about we be fair to what he did in Seattle? Because that is what this is about."

"And once you are in, aren’t you in the Hall of Fame? Unless there is a scandal, it doesn’t feel like you are gonna play your way out." He added, "Now, have I brought up this question? Absolutely, to be fair to the topic, I have said, 'Is he playing his way out of it?' My job is to ask the question. Your opinion can be, 'Of course not.'"

Patrick noted that Wilson’s contract helped the Seahawks retain players, a point he said should be weighed when evaluating his Seattle era.

Sherman, the former Seahawks cornerback, made the remarks on Amazon’s pregame show Thursday night, saying Wilson’s success in Seattle was tied to the Legion of Boom and that, without that defense, his performance looked different.

"I think you got to judge his career off when the Legion of Boom was there," Sherman said, noting the all-time defense. "Without that legendary defense, he’s been 4-11, 7-8, 0-3 to start with the Giants."

Patrick's critique comes as Wilson's departure from Seattle remains a frequent topic of discussion. Wilson went 30-18 in his final three seasons in Seattle.

A note of historical context: a 2017 ESPN The Magazine profile by Seth Wickersham recounted a practice-room moment in which Sherman screamed, "You f--king suck" at Wilson, illustrating a tense dynamic within the Seahawks’ championship era.

Wilson has faced a setback with the New York Giants, who benched him this week in favor of Jaxson Dart, underscoring the ongoing uncertainty of his second act in the NFL.

The broader debate about how to evaluate quarterbacks and the role of a defense in a team's success continues to color public commentary, with Patrick and Sherman representing competing narratives about Wilson’s legacy.
