Dart named Giants starting QB; OROY odds surge

New York, Sept. 23, 2025 — Jaxson Dart was named the New York Giants' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers, replacing Russell Wilson. The move comes as Dart, a 2025 first‑round pick, takes over after Wilson went 0-3 in his starts. Dart will make his first NFL start against a Chargers defense that has yielded the fourth-fewest points per game this season, at 16.7 per game. The decision signals a shift in the Giants' bid to spark an offense that has struggled through the early part of the year.

Dart's odds to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award jumped to +750 at FanDuel Sportsbook, tying him with three other players for the league's third-best odds. Emeka Egbuka of the Buccaneers remained the +350 favorite, with Colts tight end Tyler Warren also listed at +750. Dart, a first‑round pick, had appeared in two regular-season games in the first three weeks, totaling six snaps on offense. He ran the ball twice and handed off four times without attempting a pass.

During the preseason, Dart connected on 32 of 47 passes for 372 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, and also ran six times for 52 yards and one touchdown. The Giants opened the season with a home loss to Kansas City, 22-9, and fans at MetLife Stadium cheered for Dart while booing Wilson on the field.

Dart's first opportunity to start comes against a Chargers squad that has yielded relatively few points, but the move is part of the team's broader evaluation with an eye toward the future. After Sunday, the Giants travel to New Orleans to face the Saints, who entered Week 4 at 0-3.

Wilson briefly flashed his top-tier talent in Week 2, throwing for 450 yards in a high-scoring thriller against Dallas, but the Giants could not convert enough drives to score more than nine points in his other two starts. The decision to turn to Dart reflects New York's desire to assess its long-term options at quarterback, both for this season and beyond.

As Dart prepares for his first start, Giants fans will weigh the potential spark he could provide against the experience Wilson brought during his previous starts. The question for bettors and analysts remains whether Dart can translate preseason efficiency into late-season impact and whether the offense can sustain a pace that can keep up in a league of explosive offenses.

Dart's path to contributing immediately will be tested against a Chargers squad that has playmakers on both sides of the ball, and the Giants will be watching closely to see how the rookie performs in his first real NFL test. The club's confidence in his development will influence not only this season's prospects but the franchise's longer-term quarterback development plan.
