Deion Sanders reveals Eagles, Ravens expressed interest in Shedeur Sanders before 2025 NFL Draft
Father says teams contacted Shedeur Sanders before the Browns drafted him in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft

Deion Sanders revealed on Monday’s bonus episode of the New Heights podcast that NFL teams reached out to him about his son Shedeur Sanders before the 2025 NFL Draft. Shedeur, a quarterback who had drawn interest from several teams, was selected 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns. On the show, Sanders said the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens contacted him in April, though he did not specify the exact timing during draft week.
Sanders said on the podcast that Philly called on draft day, and he added that Baltimore and Cleveland also spoke with him. He put Shedeur on the phone for those conversations. The Eagles drafted Kyle McCord, a Syracuse quarterback, with the 181st pick in the sixth round. The note about Ravens contacting him is also referenced in the discussion, with Sanders acknowledging a prior relationship with Baltimore from his own playing days.
Shedeur’s preseason performance included a strong debut: he completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in Cleveland’s 30-10 win over the Panthers on Aug. 8. He later injured his oblique while throwing during joint practices with the Eagles on Aug. 13, causing him to miss time. In the preseason finale, a 19-17 win over the Rams on Aug. 23, he went 3 of 6 for 14 yards and was sacked five times.
The elder Sanders offered a forward-looking message about his son’s readiness. He said that while he has a feeling about when the moment will come, his son must stay prepared: time will tell when it happens, and when it does, Shedeur will be ready. The family also connected publicly on the measure of confidence surrounding the youngster’s potential.
The Browns sit at 1-2 and head to Detroit to face the Lions on Sunday.
