Derrick Henry fumbles again as Ravens fall to Lions, 38-30

Detroit Lions defeated the Baltimore Ravens 38-30 on Monday Night Football, riding a late turnover from Ravens running back Derrick Henry to pull away in the fourth quarter. Henry coughed up a handoff forced by Detroit defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, a miscue that came with Baltimore trailing by four points in the final period.

Henry had entered the night with a noted ability to move the chains, finishing with 50 rushing yards on 12 carries and a rushing touchdown. Detroit sacked the momentum briefly after the fumble by kicking a field goal on the next possession to extend its lead to seven. Baltimore would not reach the end zone again until 29 seconds remained in the game. The setback left the Ravens with a 1-2 record through three games, continuing a troubling trend as Henry has now produced three fumbles in three appearances this season, a situation Baltimore hopes to address quickly given a short week ahead.

Henry offered a rare public apology after the game, addressing Ravens fans directly and acknowledging the repeated turnover issues. "I’m my worst critic, so I’m going to watch the film. I’ll continue to watch it. I know we have a short week, but it’s just crazy. Three fumbles in three games. I’m trying every day to fix the problem that just keeps occurring, so I’m trying to work on it. I’m my worst critic, so I’m not going to try to beat myself up too much, but it’s hard not to when it’s consecutive and consistent instances of me doing the same thing," he said.

The moment stood in contrast to moments earlier in the game when Baltimore appeared to have found some rhythm. Photos from the sideline showed quarterback Lamar Jackson and Henry reacting to a first-half touchdown by Henry, underscoring the players’ visible chemistry in spurts before the late setback.

Jackson and the Ravens are acutely aware of the short week ahead, a reminder of the league’s schedule where preparation time can be at a premium after a challenging Monday night. Baltimore will look to regroup quickly, hoping to contain turnovers as the team moves forward.

Detroit improved to 2-1 on the season, leaning on a disciplined effort that balanced offense with a defense that responded after early miscues. The Lions benefited from their late fourth-quarter field goal to push the lead to seven and then extended it late as Baltimore was stalled by the turnover and stalled drives.

The Ravens’ rough stretch continued into Week 3, with three fumbles across three games bringing into sharper focus the need for ball security as they prepare for the upcoming schedule. The Lions, by contrast, will carry momentum into the next week as they work to build consistency on both sides of the ball. The game marked another chapter in a season that has already featured high expectations for Baltimore and a steady ascension for Detroit under its coaching staff.
