Devin Haney sues ex-fiancee over $350,000 in gifts, alleges assault on his assistant

Boxer Devin Haney filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court against his former fiancée, Leena Sayed, alleging she has refused to return roughly $350,000 in gifts given during their relationship. Haney says the action is necessary because he alleges he suffered more than $500,000 in damages in total as a result of the split, including money he provided to Sayed during the relationship, according to the complaint.

According to the filing, Sayed ended the relationship, and Haney's lawyers contend California law may require the return of the gifts since the gifts were given during the relationship and Sayed was the recipient. The suit catalogs luxury items including Hermes bags, an Audemars Piguet watch, a Chrome Hearts handbag and diamond jewelry, among other items, and asserts that Sayed has repeatedly refused to return them despite the dissolution of the relationship.

The complaint also accuses Sayed of assaulting two women, including Haney's personal assistant, resulting in injuries that required stitches. Haney says he paid for the medical care for those injuries. The filing details are drawn from a Los Angeles County civil action and include references to injuries and medical expenses linked to the alleged incidents involving Sayed.

The lawsuit was first reported by TMZ, with the Daily Mail subsequently publishing details from the filing obtained by its reporters. The Daily Mail coverage notes that Haney and Sayed share a daughter, Khrome, and had reportedly met around 2023.

In June, Sayed was granted a temporary restraining order against Haney after she alleged domestic violence claims. She contended that Haney abused her on multiple occasions, with incidents described as occurring as recently as 2024, including an alleged punching of her in the stomach and forceful removal from their home in Las Vegas. Sayed also said Haney pushed her while she was nine months pregnant, which she described as part of a broader pattern of abuse; she said he smashed her phone when she refused to hand it over.

Text messages cited in court documents show a tense exchange in which Haney allegedly threatened that problems would have to be “handled in the streets.” Haney’s lead attorney, Bobby S. Samini, told TMZ that his client has lived with integrity and discipline and should be judged by his actions in and out of the ring, not by unsubstantiated claims.

Sayed’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, has previously denied that his client extorted Haney and characterized the latest filing as an extension of Haney’s campaign against her following the restraining order. Kaplan said the accusation is baseless and demanded that the public understand the context of the domestic violence allegations that led to the restraining order.

The dispute reflects a broader pattern of legal clashes between Haney and Sayed that have included prior civil filings for extortion and defamation by Haney, as well as Sayed’s counterclaims alleging domestic violence. The two are described as co-parenting their daughter Khrome and had been seen publicly as a couple earlier in the relationship.

As the case proceeds, Haney’s team is pursuing the return of the gifts he says were given during the relationship and seeking damages that, by his account, exceed half a million dollars. Court filings currently outline the core financial dispute and the accompanying allegations of domestic-violence-related claims, which have become a focal point of media attention surrounding the fighter.

The parties have not publicly commented beyond the filings, and representatives for both sides did not respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press and other outlets by publication time. The case remains under review in Los Angeles County Superior Court as both sides prepare for further proceedings.
