England have no current plans to recall Mason Greenwood as international future remains undecided

England have no immediate plans to recall Mason Greenwood and the Football Association has not made contact with the 23-year-old amid ongoing uncertainty over his international allegiance.

Jamaica head coach Steve McClaren had expected Greenwood to join his squad for two World Cup qualifiers after the forward obtained a Jamaican passport, but Greenwood told Jamaica he needed more time to determine his international future and wanted to focus on playing for Marseille.

Marseille manager Thomas Tuchel said he had not been in touch with Greenwood or his representatives about an international switch and understood the player was considering representing Jamaica. "I have not spoken to him. I have not spoken to him or his camp. My understanding was that he tries to play for Jamaica so we didn't give it another thought," Tuchel said. The FA echoed that there are no current plans to offer Greenwood a route back into the England squad.

Greenwood, who left Manchester United and joined Marseille last season, has enjoyed a productive start to the new campaign. He has one goal and two assists in three Ligue 1 appearances this term, following a 21-goal campaign in the prior season. McClaren had expected Greenwood to be available for the upcoming qualifiers but said the player had indicated he needed more time before deciding on his international allegiance.

The situation has created a degree of confusion as national-team officials from England and Jamaica assess the forward's options. Greenwood's decision to delay any commitment means he will remain focused on his club duties in the near term while discussions between the player, his representatives and the relevant national associations continue.

There was no immediate indication of a timeline for Greenwood to make a final decision on his international future. For now, Marseille will look to continue integrating the forward into their squad and building on his form, while both the FA and the Jamaica Football Federation monitor developments that could determine whether Greenwood pledges his international future to Jamaica, England or opts to take further time before making a choice.
