Oklahoma State's 19-12 loss to Tulsa at home Friday night dropped the Cowboys to 1-2 this season and reignited talk that longtime coach Mike Gundy could be fired. The setback was OSU's first home loss to Tulsa in 74 years and followed last season's 3-9 record, which had already cast a pall over the program. Earlier this season, a 69-3 blowout loss at Oregon added to the concerns about the trajectory of the program.

Fans booed as OSU exited the field at halftime trailing 16-3, and ESPN's telecast captured the 'Fire Gundy' chants as he walked off the field. Oklahoma State also extended a streak that is the longest in the nation: 11 straight losses to FBS opponents. The skid is the team's longest in school history, and at 1-2 the Cowboys have a chance to salvage the start only by a strong run in Big 12 play. The college football coaching carousel this season has already seen UCLA's DeShaun Foster and Virginia Tech's Brent Pry fired, leaving Gundy's job under renewed scrutiny.

Gundy, 58, rejected the premise that the public's calls define his fate. "Those aren’t decisions that I make," he said when asked about fans' calls for him to be fired. "My decision is to do exactly what I mentioned earlier and get these guys and keep on moving forward and go on down the road, and that’s what you do." His tenure has produced the program's most wins, and he has long been viewed as the stabilizing force in Stillwater. Still, OSU's 11th straight loss to a FBS foe is the longest skid in the nation, per CBS Sports, and Friday's results have intensified the search for answers as the Big 12 schedule looms.

OSU opens Big 12 play next Saturday against Baylor, a test that will gauge whether the Gundy era can rebound or if the program will pivot in a new direction.

OSU will need a quick turnaround to salvage a season that began with high expectations after a long run of success, including a program-record number of wins under Gundy.
