Former Ohio State star Jordan Hall arrested on felony assault charge after gas-station attack leaves victim in critical condition

A former Ohio State football star was arrested on a felony assault charge after a gas-station incident left a man in critical condition, Columbus police said Sunday. Jordan Hall, 34, who played running back for the Buckeyes from 2009 to 2013 and served as a team captain, was taken into custody by Franklin County authorities, according to investigators.

Police responded to a report of an assault around 1:20 a.m. Saturday at a Columbus-area gas station. The victim was found unconscious with head injuries and was transported to a hospital in critical condition, authorities said. Investigators said surveillance video showed Hall arriving at the gas station with the victim and another man around 1 a.m., then pulling the victim out of a car and striking him in the face until he collapsed.

Authorities said Hall later returned to his vehicle, stopped, got out again and began beating the victim a second time. Homicide detectives were summoned due to the severity of the injuries, and Hall was identified as the suspect from the footage, according to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office.

Hall is expected to appear in court on Monday, prosecutors said. He played at Ohio State from 2009 through 2013, earning a degree in finance and financial management services. He later signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers but was released before the team played a game. According to LinkedIn records, he later worked for a management company in the building-maintenance sector and has described himself as pursuing the growth of a large real estate portfolio in the Midwest.

Authorities did not release further information about the victim or potential motive. The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors review the case and determine whether additional charges will be filed.
