Giants’ Micah McFadden Carted Off With Leg Injury in Season Opener
Linebacker Micah McFadden was taken from the field on a cart after his leg became trapped during a tackle in the first quarter against Washington.

Micah McFadden was carted off the field with a leg injury early in the New York Giants’ season opener against the Washington Commanders on Sept. 7, 2025.
McFadden, a fourth-year linebacker out of Indiana and the Giants’ starting right inside linebacker, suffered the injury on the Commanders’ second drive when his leg became trapped underneath him while he tackled running back Austin Ekeler. Medical personnel attended to McFadden on the field before he was placed on a cart and taken to the locker room. The Commanders finished the drive with a touchdown pass to tight end Zach Ertz to take a 7-0 lead.
Photos from the scene showed McFadden being helped onto the cart while trainers and team doctors surrounded him. The Giants did not immediately provide a diagnosis or timetable for his recovery following the play. Team officials and coaching staff were not available for an immediate comment during the game.
McFadden entered the 2025 season as a key part of the Giants’ linebacker corps. Drafted out of Indiana, he earned a starting role at right inside linebacker and was expected to contribute on early-down run defense and in pass-rush packages. His removal from the game came in the opening quarter of a game the Giants hoped would set the tone for their season.
The injury is the first significant health issue for the Giants in their season opener. The team will rely on its medical staff to evaluate McFadden’s condition, and the organization is likely to provide an update when more information becomes available. The timing of the injury, occurring on the second drive of the game, forced defensive adjustments and raised immediate concerns about depth at the linebacker position.

The Giants’ next steps will include medical testing and roster decisions depending on the severity of McFadden’s injury. For now, the team must contend with the remainder of the game and the longer-term implications if the injury sidelines a regular starter early in the season. The organization is expected to release an official status update after further evaluation.
