Giants' Tyrone Tracy Jr. out multiple weeks; Cam Skattebo to take bigger role
Injured running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. sidelined; rookie Cam Skattebo steps into larger role after Sunday's loss to Kansas City

New York Giants will be without starting running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. for multiple weeks after suffering a dislocated right shoulder in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to Kansas City, The Post confirmed.
Tracy left the game after being struck by Chiefs defenders Jaylen Watson and Drue Tranquill along the Kansas City sideline. Tracy had 29 yards on seven carries in the first quarter. Rookie Cam Skattebo totaled 121 combined yards — 60 rushing and 61 receiving — with one touchdown in Tracy’s absence, and he received the bulk of the playing time ahead of veteran Devin Singletary.
Giants coach Brian Daboll lauded Skattebo as he adjusted to increased responsibilities. "I’ve said this before, Cam is a good young player to coach," Daboll said. "He runs hard, he makes few mistakes relative to understanding the schematic of things. Instinctive player and made the most of his opportunity."
Quarterback Russell Wilson said after Sunday’s game, "It’s tough when you see a guy like Tracy, one of your star running backs, go down with a shoulder on the sideline. Had a good couple of runs, couple of good plays. So I think that was tough for us, but I thought we continued to battle throughout."
Tracy compiled 839 rushing yards with five touchdowns as a rookie last season after the Giants drafted him in the fifth round out of Purdue.
Skattebo’s 121-yard total included 60 rushing yards and 61 receiving yards, along with a touchdown, and he benefited from extra snaps while Tracy was sidelined. The Giants entered the game with questions about their depth at running back, and Skattebo’s performance in Tracy’s absence offered a glimpse of the team’s flexibility at the position as the backfield rotation re-calibrates with Singletary in the mix.
The Giants will monitor Tracy’s recovery while the coaching staff evaluates roster contingencies and continues to emphasize ball security and improved run blocking in practice. Daboll’s remarks underscored a broader plan to develop Skattebo and maintain continuity in the backfield as the team navigates an early-season stretch.
