Graham Potter sacked as West Ham boss 48 hours before Everton clash

West Ham United confirmed on Tuesday that head coach Graham Potter has left the club, just 48 hours before their Premier League fixture against Everton, making him the first managerial casualty of the 2025-26 season. The Hammers sit 19th in the table as they prepare for the visit of Everton.

In a club statement, West Ham said Potter had left the club and that results and performances over the latter half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 campaign have not matched expectations. The board believes a change is necessary to help lift the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible. The club also confirmed that Assistant Coach Bruno Saltor, First Team Coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, Lead Goalkeeper Coach Casper Ankergren, and Goalkeeper Coach Linus Kandolin have left with immediate effect. The board thanked Potter and his coaching staff for their hard work and wished them success in the future. The statement added that the process of appointing a replacement is underway, and the club would make no further comment at this time.

The departures come as West Ham look to reset ahead of their upcoming match with Everton. The club did not specify a timeline for naming a successor, but officials indicated the recruitment process had begun and that updates would be provided in due course. The exits of multiple coaching staff underline the scope of the club’s strategy to reverse a troubling start to the campaign and lift the team from the bottom of the table.
