Great Britain miss out on Billie Jean King Cup final after 2-0 loss to United States

Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup bid ended in the semi-finals as the United States sealed a 2-0 victory. In the opening singles, Sonay Kartal fought hard but was edged by Emma Navarro, leaving Katie Boulter needing to beat Jessica Pegula to keep Britain alive in the tie.

Katie Boulter then faced Pegula in the late match and, after taking the opening set, saw Pegula rebound to win in three sets, sending the United States into the final. The result means the Americans will face defending champions Italy on Sunday for the title.

Navarro outlasted Kartal in a tight three-set battle to give the United States a 2-0 lead. Navarro, ranked inside the world top 20, saved two break points in the opening game of the third set and later closed out the decider after Kartal briefly surged. Kartal had shown a breakthrough year, including a Wimbledon fourth-round run, but could not make it past Navarro on the day.

The match concluded a compelling day of tennis that underscored the United States' dominance in the event, which has now produced 18 titles. Britain, meanwhile, have reached the semi-finals three times in the last four years, but their best finish remains a runner-up spot in 1981. The United States will meet Italy, the defending champions, in Sunday’s final, with Italy aiming to add a record-extending title to their trophy cabinet.
