Hamilton says Roscoe remains in coma after pneumonia relapse

Lewis Hamilton has revealed his English bulldog Roscoe remains in an induced coma after a relapse of pneumonia left him struggling to breathe. The dog, a regular companion on the Formula One circuit, was hospitalized earlier this week when his condition deteriorated and he began having trouble breathing.

During the course of treatment, Roscoe’s heart stopped. Doctors managed to restart it, and he is now in an induced coma as clinicians continue checks. Hamilton posted on Instagram that the family does not know whether Roscoe will wake, and he asked supporters to keep the dog in their thoughts. "Please keep Roscoe in your thoughts," he wrote, adding that Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was sedated to calm him while tests were performed. "They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support."

Roscoe’s trainer, Kirstin McMillian, explained in April that the dog’s health battle had included integrative veterinary care. She described Roscoe receiving a high-dose Vitamin C IV drop and ongoing antibiotics as part of a broader treatment plan designed to help pneumonia recovery. McMillian noted the approach combines Eastern and Western practices and emphasized the dog was receiving veterinary care with additional holistic methods.

The health scare comes amid a challenging season for Hamilton since his switch from Mercedes to Ferrari. He sits sixth in the Drivers’ Championship and has yet to secure a win for the Prancing Horse after finishing eighth in Azerbaijan. Hamilton’s form has also been a topic of conversation around recent practice sessions in Baku, where he acknowledged disappointment with his qualifying position after nearly missing out on a faster lap times.

Despite the difficult stretch on the track, Hamilton has repeatedly shown his commitment off it, remaining by Roscoe’s side and engaging with fans who have followed the update closely. The dog has long been a fixture at races and on the road with the world champion, and the latest update from Hamilton has drawn an outpouring of support from followers across the sport.

As the team monitors Roscoe’s condition, Hamilton’s public update serves as a rare glimpse into the personal stakes surrounding one of the most visible figures in modern motorsport. No timeline has been provided for Roscoe’s recovery, and officials have asked for patience as veterinary teams work to determine the best course of action moving forward.
