BERLIN — English singer and songwriter Harry Styles ran the Berlin Marathon in under three hours on Sunday, organizers confirmed to the German news agency dpa. Local newspaper Der Tagesspiegel was the first to report his participation. Styles, 31, a former member of the One Direction boy band, was among about 55,000 runners taking part on what is widely regarded as the fastest marathon course in the world.

Styles finished in 2 hours, 59 minutes, 13 seconds, a sub-3 hour marathon that is a coveted benchmark for many runners. He appeared to be using the alias Sted Sarandos and wore a headband and sunglasses during the race. Der Tagesspiegel reported that Styles had been spotted running in Berlin in preparation for Sunday’s event.

At the finish, Styles posed for a photo with Richard Whitehead, a two-time Paralympic gold medalist over 200 meters. Whitehead, who is on a quest to run 20 marathons this year, posted the image on Instagram.

Styles has long pursued music fame alongside high-profile public appearances. His debut album, Harry Styles, topped the charts in the United States, Britain and several other countries, while the follow-up, Fine Line, released in 2019, included Watermelon Sugar, which earned a Grammy.

The Berlin Marathon is widely regarded as the fastest route for a marathon, attracting tens of thousands of runners from around the world. Sunday's field included roughly 55,000 participants, and Styles’ sub-3 hour finish adds a notable chapter to the race’s ongoing story.

Organizers and fans alike welcomed high-profile participation, and Styles’ performance underscores the appeal of Berlin’s fast course even as it remains a personal challenge for runners at all levels.
