Hull says Trump invited her to play after Windsor Castle state banquet

Charley Hull, a leading LPGA player, said Donald Trump invited her to play a round of golf after speaking with him at a state banquet at Windsor Castle honoring the U.S. president. Hull was among a small delegation from the sport at the event, with golfing icon Sir Nick Faldo also in attendance. The banquet, hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla, drew the U.S. president and First Lady Melania Trump, along with Tiffany Trump and her husband Michael Boulos.

Hull, who has long spoken about her admiration for Trump, said the president asked to sort a game out before the end of the year and that they discussed possible dates. She added that Trump was engaging and friendly, and that their talk focused on golf and players on both the LPGA Tour and the men’s circuit.

Hull arrived in Windsor on Wednesday, fresh off a victory at the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G, her first LPGA win on American soil in more than three years. Behind-the-scenes glimpses of her outfit showed a glamorous gold halter-neck gown, diamond earrings, and an intricate up-do as she posted photos on Instagram.

In tour circles, Hull has drawn attention for smoking on course in the past, though she said in March that she had quit after a £10,000 bet. She has not been pictured smoking on the tour since the switch. The Windsor banquet showcased Hull among a wider group of U.S. sport figures amid a ceremony attended by royalty and U.S. political figures.

Her comments add a human interest dimension to the Windsor event, which included the presence of King Charles and Queen Camilla as hosts and the other guests. Hull's plan to potentially play Trump later this year would mark a notable cross-border golf moment for an athlete who has built a following on and off the course.
