Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones exchanged heated words near the end of Sunday’s game as the Eagles knelt out the clock following a 20-17 victory in a Super Bowl LIX rematch.

The exchange came after Hurts ran for a goal-line touchdown in the fourth quarter to push Philadelphia’s lead to 10 points. As the Eagles set up to take a knee, Jones was heard saying, "You didn’t even have 100 yards," a comment that appeared directed at Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. Hurts replied, "We won the f---ing game. Shut your a-- up."

The Eagles escaped with a 20-17 win in a game that did not feature the same offensive explosiveness Philadelphia displayed in the Super Bowl in February but did enough to secure the victory. Hurts completed 15 of 22 passes for 101 yards and added the rushing touchdown that proved decisive. Barkley was held to 88 rushing yards but scored a touchdown.

Jones’ taunt referred to individual rushing yardage; Barkley’s 88 yards left him short of the 100-yard mark Jones cited. Hurts, when asked after the game, emphasized execution over statistics, saying via NBC Sports Philadelphia that "the most important thing is finding a way to win. We showed up when we needed to the most. Being able to play turnover-free football. There is a level of patience you have to have. Play within yourself."

Kansas City’s offense responded after Hurts’ touchdown with a scoring drive capped by a pass from Patrick Mahomes to Tyquan Thornton, but the Chiefs were unable to convert on subsequent opportunities and could not reclaim the lead. Mahomes completed 16 of 29 passes for 187 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also had a rushing touchdown and led the Chiefs in rushing with 66 yards on seven carries.

Philadelphia’s victory marked a close-game win in the early portion of the season and concluded with the sideline exchange drawing attention amid the final moments. The sequence underscored heightened emotions in a matchup between recent Super Bowl opponents, while both teams’ stat lines reflected a tighter, lower-scoring contest than their championship meeting earlier in the year.

Hurts after the game

Hurts’ fourth-quarter score gave Philadelphia the cushion it needed after the Chiefs narrowed the gap, and the Eagles managed the clock and possession well enough in the closing minutes to preserve the one-score win. Officials and team representatives did not announce any penalties or discipline related to the verbal exchange during or immediately after the game.
