Jacob Young's spectacular catch lifts Nationals to 3-2 win over Mets at Citi Field
In a late-season showdown, Washington outfielder Jacob Young flashed a highlight-reel grab that preserved a narrow lead as New York's playoff hopes linger.

Washington Nationals outfielder Jacob Young delivered one of the season's most memorable defensive plays in the bottom of the fifth inning at Citi Field, helping preserve a 3-2 lead against the New York Mets on Sept. 21, 2025.
Young tracked Brett Baty's deep drive from the start, closing in on the warning track before leaping and crashing into the wall. The ball briefly popped free from his glove, but Young maintained his concentration, used his foot to keep it from hitting the ground, and completed the catch as he tumbled backward. The crowd's reaction fell quiet, and Washington's dugout erupted as the ball stayed in his glove and the out stood.
Earlier, Nasim Nunez provided the offense with a two-run homer in the second inning, his third of the year, to put the Nationals in front. New York battled back with a Francisco Lindor homer and an RBI by Cedric Mullins, but the Mets could not answer further as Jake Irvin worked deep into the game and Mitchell Parker secured the final outs for the save.
The win kept Washington in control of the late-season pace, though the standings were not kind to either club. Washington moved to 64-92 on the year, while New York fell to 80-76 and remained tied for the final National League Wild Card spot as the season winds toward its conclusion. Young finished 1-for-3 in the game.
