Jazz Chisholm Jr. joins rare Yankees 30-30 club with 30-30 season

Jazz Chisholm Jr. became the first Yankee since Alfonso Soriano in 2002-03 to reach 30-30, after his two-out, two-run homer in the seventh inning gave him homer No. 30 and his 30th stolen base in a 4-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Friday.

Chisholm's milestone came on a night when the Yankees fell short in a game that did little to ease the club's postseason hopes. The homer came off left-hander Dietrich Enns, a former Yankee farmhand, in the top of the seventh, cutting New York's deficit to 4-2. He remains on pace for a career high in homers and more power if he can stay healthy and run through more of a full season.

"Getting 30-30 invokes a lot of things," Aaron Boone said of Chisholm. "It certainly lines up with his skill set." The only other player to be part of the club this year before Chisholm was Juan Soto, who also joined for the first time this season. Boone noted that Chisholm had missed time due to injuries this season, which kept him from amassing even better numbers and was limited at other times from running when he was playing through discomfort.

Chisholm's performance has continued to illustrate his evolution since the Yankees acquired him at last year’s trade deadline. "He’s moving the needle and getting better as a player," Boone said of Chisholm’s overall game since coming over from Miami. "He controls the strike zone better. That will allow him to be more of an on-base threat and his speed will help him. He’s a very dynamic player." He also expressed optimism that a 40-40 season could be possible if he stays healthy, a goal he has hinted at since his rookie year.

In the sixth inning, Chisholm made an ill-advised flip throw toward first on Gunnar Henderson’s grounder, an error that followed a Will Warren miscue to open the inning and helped produce a pair of unearned runs. New York, though, continued to push for late offense, with Chisholm contributing on offense and defense, even as the game slipped away.

Chisholm celebrated with teammates after his seventh-inning shot and, as he indicated after the game, he intends to soak in the milestone while keeping focused on the bigger picture: contributing to a club chasing a return to the postseason. The milestone underscores the progress the 2025 version of Chisholm has shown since joining the Yankees, adding another layer to a season already marked by career highs in power and speed.

Only three Yankees have reached 30-30 in club history, with Chisholm joining Soriano and Bobby Bonds (accomplished in 1975). Chisholm’s 30-30 season places him among a small, exclusive group, even as the Yankees try to steady a campaign that will require a strong finish to contend for a playoff berth.
