Jets place Quincy Williams on IR, add Mark Robinson to replace him

The New York Jets placed starting linebacker Quincy Williams on injured reserve with a shoulder injury suffered in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ruling him out for a minimum of four weeks. The move also includes signing linebacker Mark Robinson off the New England Patriots’ practice squad to the Jets’ 53-man roster to replace Williams, according to NFL Network.

Williams was hurt late in the second quarter and did not return for the second half of the game. He finished with four tackles, a half-sack and two quarterback hits. The 29-year-old linebacker, the older brother of Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, finished second on the team with 116 tackles last season, his fifth with the Jets after two with the Jaguars. He is slated to become a free agent after this season, on a three-year, $18 million deal that includes a $1.5 million incentive in 2025.

Robinson, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Steelers in 2022. He had been elevated to the active roster in each of New England’s first three games, recording three special-teams tackles.

With Williams out, the Jets will lean on the rest of their linebacking corps as they prepare for Monday’s game against the Dolphins. The team has already added Robinson to the roster to help stabilize the unit.

The Jets hope the veteran addition helps mitigate a blow to a defense that has faced recent injuries and is tasked with keeping pace in a tightly contested early-season schedule.
