Juan Soto Joins 30-30 Club in First Season with Mets

Juan Soto reached the 30-homer, 30-stolen-base milestone for the first time in his major league career on Sept. 9, 2025, when he swiped third base in the eighth inning of the Mets’ game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The steal completed a breakout season on the bases for Soto in his first year with New York. He entered the game with 29 steals and added the 30th on the play, while also sitting at 38 home runs for the season, three shy of his career high of 41 set in 2024 with the Yankees.

Soto’s 30-30 achievement is notable both for the individual turnaround on the bases and for its place in Mets history. He became the seventh instance of a Mets player reaching the 30-30 mark and the fifth different player to do so for the franchise. The group of Mets 30-30ers includes Howard Johnson, who accomplished it three times, Darryl Strawberry, David Wright and Francisco Lindor, who was the most recent before Soto when he reached the mark in 2023.

Prior to 2025, Soto had never recorded more than 12 stolen bases in a single season in his big league career. The sudden jump in base-stealing this year reflects a change in his role and approach with the Mets, who acquired him during the offseason. His power numbers have remained a constant; Soto’s 38 home runs put him within reach of matching or surpassing his career high with more than two weeks remaining in the regular season.

With 16 games left on the Mets’ schedule after Tuesday, Soto retains a mathematical chance to join the rare 40-40 club — a feat that has not been accomplished by a player in Queens. The 40-40 season remains one of the more elusive benchmarks in baseball, achieved by very few players across the sport’s history.

The steal that clinched Soto’s 30th came in a season in which the Mets have leaned on his combination of on-base skills and power to bolster a lineup that has mixed veteran stars and younger contributors. Soto’s ability to add steals to his repertoire has added a new dimension to the Mets’ offense and pressure on opposing defenses late in games.

Soto’s milestone also adds narrative weight to the final weeks of the regular season as teams jockey for playoff positioning. His blend of power and speed places him among the more versatile offensive threats in the National League and underscores why the Mets invested heavily to bring him to New York.

Stat lines and game logs will finalize as the season closes, but Soto’s entry into the 30-30 club marks a clear personal milestone and a notable moment for the Mets franchise as they prepare for the postseason run.
