Kane could return to Premier League via Bayern release clause, reports claim

Harry Kane could return to the Premier League this summer due to a reported release clause in his Bayern Munich contract, Bild reported on Thursday. The England captain has less than two years left on his deal after moving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, and he has developed a prolific record in Germany, with 98 goals in 103 appearances for Bayern. He has already struck 13 goals this season, a tally that places him among the club’s top scorers and highlights his continued effectiveness in Germany.

Kane has also publicly spoken of his happiness in Munich, with his wife Kate and their four children settled in. In May he said: "I'm really happy here in Munich. My family has settled down. My kids are loving it here in school, so yes, this is my life here for the foreseeable future." At 32, Kane remains eager to chase major silverware and is well clear of any suggestion he is disenchanted in Bavaria. He left Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 with 213 Premier League goals, 47 short of Alan Shearer's all-time record of 260.

Bild's report centers on a release clause that would allow Kane to depart Bayern for about £56.7 million in the summer, provided he announces his intention to leave before the end of the winter transfer window. The German outlet also quotes Bild's sports editor urging Bayern to extend Kane's deal to 2028, arguing he could continue scoring at a high level into his mid-to-late 30s and thereby deter interest from England's top clubs.

Bayern have recently signed Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea, with the option to make the move permanent for around £56.3 million. Kane remains a central figure in the Bayern attack, and his continued goal-haul has reinforced his status as a key asset for the club. On the field, he showed no sign of slowing down with a hat-trick against Hoffenheim at the weekend, a performance that underscored his value and form.

Despite the ongoing speculation, Kane has not signaled any intention to leave Munich. He has long been linked with Premier League sides during his time in Germany, and reports of interest from Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United have recurred over the years, though no deal has materialized. Kane's pursuit of Shearer's record remains a talking point, as he closed in on the landmark during his spell in England before moving abroad.

Time will tell whether the clause becomes a pathway back to England this summer. For now, Kane and Bayern appear to be navigating a potential fork in the road that could shape both the Bundesliga and the Premier League in the coming transfer window.
