Lennon Miller, a 19-year-old Scotland international, scored on his first start for Udinese as the Serie A side beat Palermo 2-1 in the Coppa Italia to reach the last 16 and book a showdown with Juventus in Turin.

Three days after coming off the bench to make his Udinese debut in a Serie A defeat to AC Milan, Miller started against Palermo as part of a 3-5-2 formation and delivered a composed display in Udine amid rain. The former Motherwell youngster had waited for his chance and seized it, showing pace, technique and an eye for goal.

Nicolo Zaniolo curled the opener from the edge of the box after cutting inside, with a deflection helping guide the shot into the net. A few minutes later Miller found himself in the right place when Palermo goalkeeper Jesse Joronen parried and Miller headed in from 12 yards to double Udinese's lead. Palermo pulled a goal back in the closing stages, but Udinese held on to advance to the next round.

Udinese's performance added to their early-season momentum, with three wins in their last four fixtures following a 2-1 victory away to Inter. The result left Miller's new club in a healthy position as they prepare for a high-profile cup tie.

Miller later reflected on the breakthrough, saying he was grateful for the chance and eager to prove he can win a regular spot in Udinese's midfield. He spoke about learning from the existing squad and the desire to contribute consistently throughout the campaign. Runjaic praised Miller for producing a mature display and said the teenager has the potential to cover several roles, including holding midfield, central midfield and even a No 10, depending on tactical needs.

Udinese will now face Juventus in Turin in December in the Coppa Italia last 16, a mouthwatering tie that pits Miller against the Serie A leaders and marks a significant step in his development at Udinese.
