Longtime Chiefs stadium announcer Dale Carter resigns days before Arrowhead home opener

Dale Carter, the public-address voice at Arrowhead Stadium for more than 16 seasons, resigned effective immediately on Friday, days before the Kansas City Chiefs host their Week 2 home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Carter confirmed the resignation in a Facebook post, saying the move lifted "an enormous weight" and noting his 16-plus years on the job that included six AFC Championship games at Arrowhead and a streak of five in a row. "I truly enjoyed being the 'Audio Propagandist' for the team I love," he wrote.

In a separate post and remarks on his 94.1 KFKF morning radio show, Carter said the resignation stemmed from a dispute over his signature third-down calls. He said his third-down delivery became a game-day trademark after he adjusted his style in response to an earlier league warning about more enthusiastic crowd interactions.

"The red line for me related to my third down call," Carter wrote. He said 65 TPT Productions, the company he works with at the stadium, told him it had received complaints from "a high level" that another public-address announcer at a different stadium had "amped it up" on third down and asked Carter to experiment with different calls. Carter said he tried changes at the request of the production company but ultimately disagreed with the direction and decided to resign when asked to cross the limit he had set for himself.

The Chiefs issued a brief statement Friday acknowledging Carter's departure, saying the club "appreciates Dale's dedication and professionalism as the in-stadium voice at GEHA Field at Arrowhead over the past 16 seasons. We understand and respect his decision and wish him all the best moving forward," according to reporting by The Athletic.

Super Bowl champion sign at Arrowhead Stadium

Carter's exit leaves the Chiefs with a compressed timeline to secure a new stadium public-address voice before Sunday’s game, which is a rematch of Super Bowl LIX. The team played the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. Arrowhead's in-stadium announcer has been a consistent element of the gameday experience and contributed to the atmosphere the franchise emphasizes at home games.

Carter's tenure extended through multiple deep postseason runs, and his presence on game days included signature calls and a sideline personality that became familiar to season-ticket holders. He also hosts a morning radio show on 94.1 KFKF and described his in-stadium role as an effort to "give our guys an advantage" within the rules.

Neither the Chiefs nor 65 TPT Productions provided additional details about who would assume public-address responsibilities for the home opener. The club's statement did not comment on the specifics Carter described regarding the request to alter his third-down calls.

Carter's announcement drew attention on social media and from local media outlets given the timing ahead of a high-profile home game. He said in his posts that he had been a team player when asked to experiment with his calls in the past but that the most recent request crossed a personal line. The Chiefs said they respected his choice and wished him well as they move forward.

Fans and attendees for Sunday's game can expect the organization to fill gameday roles in the coming days. The club will also manage in-house production and announcements as it transitions to a new in-stadium voice for Arrowhead events.
