Luka Doncic reportedly buys Maria Sharapova-designed Manhattan Beach mansion for $25 million
Purchase follows a reported three-year, $165 million maximum extension with the Lakers as the franchise signals a long-term shift

Luka Doncic has reportedly purchased a Manhattan Beach mansion built and formerly owned by tennis champion Maria Sharapova for $25 million as he settles in Los Angeles, according to media reports.
The purchase, first reported by U.S. outlets, comes shortly after Doncic’s reported signing of a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. Team observers said the move signals the franchise’s intention to make Doncic a long-term focal point.
The three-story property sits in Manhattan Beach’s Hill Section on roughly a quarter-acre lot and was custom-designed by Sharapova. Completed in 2015, the home features five bedrooms, expansive living areas designed to admit natural light, a two-lane bowling alley in the basement, a large swimming pool and an alfresco entertaining area with a built-in barbecue center and outdoor fireplace. Disappearing glass walls connect the open kitchen to the outdoor deck, according to descriptions of the property.
Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam singles champion, has previously described the project as a personal obsession, saying she was involved in design decisions from finishes to kitchen layout and that she drew inspiration from Japanese architecture and minimalist aesthetics. Records cited by reporters show Sharapova purchased the property in August 2012 for about $4.1 million and later developed the custom residence.
Reports that Sharapova and her partner, Alexander Gilkes, were looking to sell the home surfaced in July, opening the opportunity for a new buyer in the Los Angeles area. Media accounts say Doncic, 26, completed the purchase as he settles into the region following his reported mega-deal with the Lakers.
The contract extension that preceded the purchase is also likely to reshape the Lakers’ roster hierarchy. The deal secures Doncic’s short-term future in Los Angeles and has prompted questions about the club’s path beyond the current season for veteran teammate LeBron James. James is scheduled to earn $52.6 million this season and will be a free agent in 2026; he turns 41 in December and is entering his 23rd NBA season.
The reported acquisition of a high-profile property in Manhattan Beach underscores a broader trend of elite athletes buying real estate near Los Angeles’ coastal communities after joining or signing extensions with local franchises. For the Lakers, the reported extension and Doncic’s purchase may be read as a long-term investment in a younger franchise centerpiece while veterans and contract status on older players remain under consideration.
Neither Doncic’s representatives nor the Lakers immediately responded to requests for comment from U.S. media at the time of the reports. Maria Sharapova has discussed the house in past videos and interviews, offering a rare look inside the three-story property during its development.
The reported $25 million sale price represents a significant increase over the initial purchase price recorded in 2012, reflecting both the custom construction and strong demand for high-end coastal residences in the Los Angeles market. The transaction, if finalized as reported, will add another notable real estate purchase to an active period for roster and contract moves in the NBA ahead of the 2025–26 season.
