Malik Nabers and Brian Daboll Have Animated Sideline Exchange in Giants' Season Opener
Second-year receiver was described as “upset” on broadcast as coach Daboll gathered players during first-half pause with New York trailing Washington 14-3.

Malik Nabers and New York Giants coach Brian Daboll were involved in an animated sideline exchange during the first half of the Giants’ season opener against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, footage shown on Fox's broadcast showed.
The clip, aired during a quarter break, showed Daboll addressing Nabers in a spirited discussion while teammates moved in on the pair. Play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt, calling the game alongside Tom Brady, described Nabers as “upset” and said Daboll was addressing the issue. Burkhardt recounted what followed: “Malik Nabers, upset at something, Brian Daboll addressing it, and then his teammates came over to help, and then says, ‘Hey guys, let’s get together, we gotta go, and so they will.”
Daboll, in his fourth season as Giants head coach, was seen gathering Nabers and other players in a huddle before play resumed. The incident occurred in the second quarter, when New York trailed Washington 14-3.
Nabers, the Giants’ sixth overall pick in the 2024 draft and now in his second NFL season, had two receptions for 23 yards at the time the exchange was shown. The Giants entered the game following a 3-14 finish in Nabers’ rookie year.
Broadcast angles captured teammates moving between Daboll and Nabers and then the coach addressing the group in what appeared to be a quick regrouping. The exchange did not delay play beyond the normal break, and game action resumed after the on-field huddle.
The moment drew attention on social platforms and among viewers of the nationally televised game because of the open-mic nature of sideline interactions during broadcasts. The team did not immediately provide a statement about the sideline discussion.
The Giants opened the regular season seeking improvement after their 3-14 finish the previous year and are managing heightened attention on young players taken early in the draft. Nabers’ development and his rapport with the coaching staff will be among the storylines the organization and media follow as the season progresses.
