Man United agree loan for Andre Onana as Senne Lammens signs

Andre Onana is close to leaving Manchester United on loan to Turkish club Trabzonspor for the remainder of the season, a move that could mark the end of his time at Old Trafford.

United reached agreement in principle with Trabzonspor after signing 21-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Antwerp for £21.7 million last week, sources told Daily Mail Sport. Contact was made with the Turkish side while they were in the process of selling first-choice keeper Uğurcan Çakır to Galatasaray, and the loan progressed quickly.

Daily Mail Sport understands that Onana, who joined United from Inter Milan two years ago for about £47.2 million, was told by the club that it would not stand in his way if he wanted to seek a move. That position followed public statements from figures close to both the club and the player earlier in the summer insisting Onana would remain at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international has been in and out of the side amid a spell of inconsistent form and a number of high-profile errors since his arrival. United's decision to recruit Lammens as a long-term option signalled a change in the club's goalkeeping hierarchy and accelerated talks over a temporary exit for Onana.

Under the terms agreed with Trabzonspor, the deal is a season-long loan, with the move expected to be completed before the Turkish transfer window closes on Sept. 12. United and the Turkish club were finalising the paperwork on Saturday, with the player prepared to travel once formalities are completed.

The switch follows a summer when Manchester United actively pursued reinforcements for the position, culminating in the acquisition of Lammens. The Belgian keeper will provide competition and cover at a club that has sought greater reliability and long-term continuity in goal after a period of rotation and errors at the position.

Onana's potential departure comes as Trabzonspor reshapes its goalkeeping department following reported interest from Galatasaray in Çakır. For United, the loan would allow them to manage squad numbers while Lammens integrates into the first-team environment.

Neither club issued an immediate official statement confirming the deal on Saturday. If completed, the loan will leave United with a reshaped goalkeeping group and raise questions about the club's long-term plans for Onana, who had been a regular starter at times but struggled for consistency since his transfer from Inter Milan.
