Maresca reiterates Chelsea commitment amid City links and post-Everton remarks

Enzo Maresca said he has no plans to leave Chelsea for Manchester City this summer, despite ongoing links to Pep Guardiola’s club should Guardiola depart. The Chelsea head coach pointed to a contract that runs through 2029, with the option of an additional year, and dismissed the transfer chatter as 100 percent speculation.

The issue has intensified after Maresca’s post-Everton remarks, which club sources described as an emotional reaction to an emotional win. Maresca said the comments were not an emotional reaction and stood by what he said, adding that he would not engage further with transfer talk and that his focus remains on Chelsea’s next fixture against Newcastle.

He also noted that his relationship with Chelsea’s hierarchy remains professional, with regular debriefs with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, while acknowledging input can come from others but emphasising he is content with the squad.

Maresca’s decision to switch representation to Jorge Mendes has not altered his stance on staying at Chelsea, and he has previously assisted Guardiola during City’s treble-winning 2022-23 season, a detail cited in coverage of his career path.

Asked about a possible promotion in his role or influence over transfers, Maresca indicated questions about a new contract should be directed to the club, and only if they believe he deserves one. He also noted that speculation has followed him abroad, including in Italy with Juventus.

Chelsea’s head coach, when pressed on transfer authority, rejected the notion that Maresca seeks a greater say in recruitment, insisting he is happy with the squad. The club has emphasised a collaborative approach to recruitment with the sporting directors.

As Chelsea push for results in a demanding schedule, Maresca’s insistence on focusing on the next match highlights the ongoing dynamic at Stamford Bridge, with both supporters and rivals watching for any further developments.
