Maryland football player charged with DUI after crashing into College Park bar
Redshirt freshman Daniel Holmes arrested after incident at Looney’s Pub; Maryland says the matter is being handled internally.

A University of Maryland football player was charged with DUI after crashing his car into the side of Looney's Pub in College Park and attempting to drive away, authorities said. Daniel Lee Holmes, a redshirt freshman on the Terrapins, was arrested Wednesday morning following the incident. The 19-year-old was charged with DUI, processed and later released, according to police.
Holmes is a native of Washington, D.C., and initially committed to Florida State in the 2024 class. He was ranked the No. 2 player in D.C., the 42nd-best offensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 329 recruit overall. He transferred to Maryland in the offseason and has appeared in the Terrapins' first four games this season, recording three tackles. Maryland is 4-0 after opening with non-conference wins over Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois and Towson, then knocking off Wisconsin on the road to begin Big Ten play. The Terrapins have a bye this week and will host Washington on Oct. 4.
A Maryland spokesman told InsideMDSports, "We are aware of an incident involving Daniel Holmes and are handling it internally." The athletics department did not offer additional comment beyond that statement, and police did not release further information about the arrest. The program is monitoring the situation as it progresses, with Maryland aiming to continue its 4-0 start as it returns from its bye week to face Washington on Oct. 4.
