Mets chase wild-card finish at Wrigley as Cubs wrap series

The New York Mets will wrap their four-game series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Thursday as they pursue a National League wild-card berth with four games remaining in the regular season. Chicago has already clinched a postseason spot, and the Cubs dropped the first meeting of the season with New York 2-1 in May.

Chicago will start Shota Imanaga, a left-hander who is 9-7 with a 3.37 ERA this season. His first pitch is slated for 7:40 p.m. ET as the Cubs host the Mets in the Windy City.

Through September, Imanaga has worked 22 innings across four September appearances, going 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA. He has allowed three earned runs in those starts and eight home runs. His expected ERA is 4.06, but his command has been strong; he ranks in the top 4 percent in walk rate and posts a chase rate of about 31.8 percent on pitches outside the strike zone, according to Statcast.

Off the field, Bet365 is promoting a Bet $5, Get $200 in Bonus Bets welcome offer for new customers in eligible states using the promo code NYPBET. The first bet must be on odds of -500 or greater. If the Mets win, bettors receive the payout plus $200 in bonus bets; if the Cubs win, the bettor still receives the $200 bonus bets. The offer is available in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia.

The four-game set at Wrigley stands as a critical point in the Mets’ pursuit of a postseason berth, with New York aiming to build momentum in the season’s final stretch. The Cubs, having already secured a playoff spot, will look to cap their campaign with continued form as they prepare for the next phase of the postseason.
