Mets place Reed Garrett on IL again ahead of crucial finishing stretch
Elbow sprain sidelines key reliever as bullpen reshuffle intensifies for playoff push

New York Mets reliever Reed Garrett was placed on the injured list Thursday with an elbow sprain, knocking him out for at least the rest of the regular season as the team presses toward a playoff berth in September.
The severity of the sprain was not immediately known. Garrett, who had been sidelined at the end of August and early September with elbow inflammation, had returned but without his usual effectiveness. He was knocked around last Thursday in Philadelphia, allowing three runs in 2/3 of an inning.

Before finishing a series against the Padres at Citi Field, the Mets called up righties Huascar Brazoban, Wander Suero and Chris Devenski. Sean Manaea was placed on the paternity list and Dom Hamel, who debuted Wednesday, was designated for assignment.
Garrett Had been among the Mets’ best relievers for two seasons, serving a steady role in late innings. His latest injury compounds depth concerns for a bullpen that has been forced to adapt as the team battles to secure a postseason spot.
The roster moves come as New York continues to juggle its relief corps, with the goal of maintaining a competitive edge down the stretch of a tight pennant race.
