Naz condemns racist abuse after Tottenham win in Women's League Cup

Tottenham forward Jess Naz has said she is done being quiet after revealing she was subjected to racial abuse in her direct messages in the wake of Tottenham's penalty shootout victory over Aston Villa in the Women's League Cup. Naz posted on Instagram that she had been subjected to such abuse and stressed that racism in any form is unacceptable and must be addressed to prevent it from happening again.

Tottenham said the club is disgusted by the racist abuse received by Naz via social media and that it stands with her in condemning the act. The club added that it is working with the relevant authorities and social media platforms to identify the person responsible and will take the strongest action against them. There is no place for racism in sport or anywhere in society.

Naz, 24, joined Tottenham from Arsenal in 2018 and has started every match across the Women's Super League and Women's League Cup this season. She also has six England caps.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about online abuse directed at players in football and the broader duty of clubs, platforms and authorities to address harmful behavior and protect players from harassment.
